Our beloved mother, Emma Abeyta Ortiz, age 87, took her last breath on February 3, 2020 at 10:40 p.m, surrounded by her family at Hospice of the Valley in Gilbert, Arizona; where cremation has taken place.
Emma’s parents lineage began when her ancestors came from Spain through Mexico and settled in Northern New Mexico in the late 1600-1700’s.
Emma was born May 1, 1932 in Ledoux, New Mexico, to Ezequiel Abeyta and Amalia Romero Abeyta. The Abeyta family moved to Wyoming in 1943.
Emma met her husband Gilbert Ortiz, on the corner of 18th and Dillon in front of Marcello’s Acme grocery store, Gilbert was simply asking Emma for directions. They later married on September 1, 1951 at St. Mary’s Cathedral and raised four children.
They both loved to travel, camp in their RV home, and winter in Arizona. Our mother, loved dancing, shopping at second hand stores, visiting flea markets, and casino’s. She collected doll’s and vintage jewelry. But what she loved most was her children and the home she raised her children in.
She is survived by her children, Jo Ann Garcia (Alan), Gilbert II Ortiz, David Ortiz and son-in-law, Gilbert Lopez; Grandchildren; Desiree Greco, Gilbert Ortiz III, Jeffrey Lopez, Chadran Dygert, Keri Ray, David J. Ortiz, Dallas Ortiz, Jaclyn Fernandez and Erin Lopez; several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and great great great grandchildren; siblings, Tina Ortega, Lawrence Abeyta, Gilbert Abeyta, Mary Gomez, Margie Martinez and Martin Abeyta; several nieces and nephews.
