Emma Rose Deines died peacefully July 8, 2016. She was born December 5, 1919, in Gering, Nebraska and moved to Cheyenne as a child with her parents Frederick John and Anna Marie (Eisenach) Lebsack. She is survived by her children Dorothy Sprecher (Kim) of Cheyenne, Paul Deines (Nancy) of Louisville, Kentucky, and Kenneth Deines (Karen) of Timnath, Colorado, eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 8 great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Herman, her parents, and sisters Mollie Cook, Erma Shipley and brothers Emil Lebsack, Fred J. Lebsack, Jacob Robert Lebsack, Harry Leonard Lebsack and Adolph John Lebsack, She graduated from Cheyenne High School and retired from Civil Service at Warren AFB. She and Herman loved to fish and boat in the Snowy Range and travelled often to visit friends and family.
Emma was confirmed at Zion Congregational Church and joined St Paul’s Lutheran shortly after marriage in 1939. At St Paul’s she was active in the Martha circle and taught Sunday School. As a young homemaker, she was active in the Tower Extension Club and remained a member for over 30 years. In retirement, she provided care and support to her husband Herman, but also explored interests in painting as a member of the Cheyenne Artists Guild. She also began writing sketches about her childhood and early life in the melting pot of Cheyenne’s “South Side.” She was an avid supporter of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia (AHSGR), Southeast Wyoming and National chapters, and the study of the cultural history and genealogy of her family and the German colonists migration from the Russian steppes to American to escape ethnic, religious, and economic persecution.
Mother was loved deeply by her family for whom she and Herman sacrificed much to give a better life. She loved many and forgave much. She maintained a sweet disposition and was a friend to many including her fellow residents at Lifecare of Cheyenne.
We extend a special thanks to neighbors and friends Annita and Mike Tripple, Ruth Critchfield , the St. Paul’s Church family, and the staff at Lifecare who provided kind and loving support.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, July 16 with service at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church 210 E. 19th Street, Cheyenne. Interment Monday July 18. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to St Paul’s Lutheran.
