Elsie Zelenka, 88, passed away Friday, July 11, 2014 at Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne.
A lifelong resident of Rock Springs, she lived in Cheyenne at Sierra Hills for the past 6 years.
She was born July 16, 1925 in Rock Springs to Frank and Frances (Adovnick) Cilensek.
Elise was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James R. Zelenka; brothers, Frank and Carl Cilensek; sisters, Mary (Schreck), Ursula (Fletcher), Jeanne (Stanton), Fran (Liska) and Louise Cilensek.
She is survived by her son, Deacon David (Cleata) Zelenka of Cheyenne; daughter, Kathy (Sam) Ryder of Rock Springs; granddaughters, Dr. Jamie Ryder and Sherrie Ryder, both of Omaha, Nebraska; sisters-in-law, Shirley and Flossie Cilensek of Rock Springs and many nieces and nephews.
She and her sister, Louise, worked at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah as the iconic “Rosie the Riveter” where they repaired and reassembled B-24 and B-29 bombers damaged in World War II.
Elsie was an avid bowler and enjoyed traveling with her husband to many Pearl Harbor Survivor Reunions. Her granddaughters were her main focus in life.
Severe arthritis impeded her activities in later years, but not her wit. She endeared herself to all her caregivers wherever she was and her entertaining personality will surely be missed.
