Elder Samuel Reid, 90, of Cheyenne, died on Friday, November 6, 2015 at the Davis Hospice Center.
He was born on May 19, 1925 in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1941, Pastor Reid accepted Christ in his life and “A Prepared Place for a Prepared People” was his first sermon.
Pastor Reid joined the U.S. Army in 1944 and his first duty station was Cheyenne, Wyoming and joined Holy Temple Church of God in Christ. He has had the honor of serving under all Church of God in Christ Bishops. In 1972, he accepted the Pastor’s position at Second Baptist Church, serving in that capacity for 26 years, in which he oversaw the relocation of the church to its current location at 2403 Snyder Avenue. He retired in 2001 and remained very active in the Cheyenne community.
Pastor is survived by four children, Shirley Robinson, Pat Brown, Vera Jones, and James Reid; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Pearl Reid; and a daughter, Evelyn Reid.
Services will be Friday, 11:00 a.m., at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.
Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
