Edwin Lee Haviland, 89, of Cheyenne, died on Friday, August 21, 2015 at the VA Hospital, surrounded by his family..
He was born on August 25, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois.
Mr. Haviland served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a Purple Heart recipient. He manufactured medical instruments and at one time owned a farm in Missouri and ranches in Colorado Springs, Colorado and New Mexico. The movie ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’ was filmed on his New Mexico ranch. He was self-taught on the piano and banjo and enjoyed painting and gardening. Edwin was also a private pilot and owned his own plane.
Mr. Haviland is survived by his wife of 71 years, Marian Haviland; a daughter, Judy Haviland; a son, Bruce Haviland (Vickie); three grandchildren, Shannan Restivo (Braxton), Bobby Carter (Jayme Gordy and her children, Taylor and Oakley), and Heather Haviland; great-grandson, Michael Frans (Beth); a great-great-granddaughter, Zoey Frans; and his beloved dog “Muffin”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Eleanor (Remig) Haviland; two brothers, Earl and Bobby Haviland; and a sister, Jean Gerber.
