Edward W. Nickel, 79, of Cheyenne, died Thursday, December 25, 2014 in Fort Collins, Colorado.
He was born July 18, 1935 in Bismarck, North Dakota, to William and Elsie (Gallwas) Nickel. Edward attended schools in North Dakota and worked on the family farm. Later his family moved to Bozeman, Montana where he worked at the family motel and graduated high school. He joined the U. S. Air Force immediately following his high school graduation. While stationed at F.E. Warren Air Force base in Cheyenne he met his future wife, Georgia S. Harris, who he married on October 5, 1958. He also served in the Vietnam War during his military career and he retired in 1974. After his military career he worked as an auctioneer for Coulter’s Auction in Cheyenne for many years. He was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
He was an outdoorsman, enjoying all Wyoming had to offer, including hunting, fishing and four wheeling. Following his retirement, Edward traveled to Emporia, Kansas once or twice a year to work on the Miller’s Family Farm. They are very dear family friends.
Survivors include his daughter, Heather Hartnell (Bill) of Cheyenne; a brother, Harold Nickel (Marilyn) of Kirkland, Washington; two sisters, Alice Lundwall (Jerry) of Bella Vista, Arkansas; and Mavis Knudson of Cleveland, Ohio; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and a son.
Services will be held Friday, January 9, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel. Interment will follow at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
