Dr. Rev. Linda Diane Walters, native of Cheyenne, died on August 1, 2021 in Cheyenne.
She was born on January 31, 1950 in Cheyenne.
She was adopted by immigrant parents, Jacob and Marie (Eckhardt) Walters and attended Henderson Elementary, Carey Junior High, and graduated from Cheyenne East High School. She was a member of the National Honor Society and was grateful for scholarships for degrees and studies at the University of Wyoming, Drake University, Syracuse, SMU, Wartburg Theological Seminary, and Pontifico Istituto Di Musica Sacra of Rome, Italy.
She was a dedicated musician, teacher, ordained minister, therapist, and devoted friend. She had her own piano and organ studio in high school and colleges. She taught at Oak Park Academy, Drake University, Southwestern Union College, and Cheyenne East High School. Rev. Walters served as minister to Wedgwood Methodist Church of Ft. Worth, Texas, First Methodist Church of Galena, Illinois, and Ascension Lutheran Church of Cheyenne. She worked for Harris Methodist Hospital of Ft. Worth, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center of Houston, and Memorial Southwest Hospital of Houston.
She was a life member of honorary Phi Mu Alpha, Pi Kappa Lambda, Delta Omicron, and Who’s Who of International Women Musicians and Composers. She was a popular concert organist all over Europe. She served as Director of Drake Opera Company, Musical Director of Des Moines Playhouse, and Principal Organist for St. Mary’s Cathedral of Cheyenne for over 28 years. She enjoyed a second home in Kauai, Hawaii and had beloved rescue dogs.
She is survived by a goddaughter, Anna Marie Bergquist; twin goddaughters, Abby and Anna Riggs; her parents Godson, Rick Eckhardt; and numerous friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Godparents, Fred and Dollie Linker, 19 aunts and uncles; and birth mother, Joyce Becker.
Private interment will take place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
