Douglas Ray "Doug" Taylor

September 26, 1949 — November 21, 2023

Douglas Ray “Doug” Taylor, 74, of Cheyenne, died on November 21, 2023 in Cheyenne WY after battling terminal cancer for three years. He liked to tell people he had out lived his expiration date. We are grateful for the extra years we had with him.
He was born on September 26, 1949 in Cheyenne to Opal and Lester Taylor. His family moved to North Platte NE when Doug was two months old. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
Doug graduated from North Platte High School in 1967. During his high school years he had many jobs. He worked in a bakery, and restaurants doing dishes and cooking. He also pumped gas at two different locations. He hired out on the Union Pacific Rail Road, starting in the clerk department, then as a switchman. Doug joined the Army National Guard, and upon returning home from active duty he continued his job with the railroad. He also met and 3 years later married Teresa Lynne “Teri” Cain on June 19th 1971. He worked as a yardmaster for two years, during which time they welcomed their son Cory. In 1974 they moved to Cheyenne WY where he worked as a brakemen and conductor. Before long they welcomed another son John and their daughter Heidi. He retired in 2010 after 42 years of service with the Union Pacific.
Doug was a man of many hobbies: He always took time out to play with his kids and it usually meant making a mess. He loved to water ski, swim, play basketball, and he was an avid Denver Nuggets fan. He also enjoyed tennis, racket ball, lifting weights, snow skiing, going camping and fishing, bird and big game hunting and he loved reading. He coached baseball for 17 years. He was a Webelo scout leader for several years with the church group. He enjoyed teaching them what they were supposed to be learning, but mostly he loved teaching them to play! Because of his love of history, he researched and authentically painted miniatures figurines, and reenacted battles with his friends. He loved to play games online with friends from all over the world. Doug also loved to shoot craps and play Texas Holdem, especially with his brother-in-law Henry Whitcomb.
He is survived by: His wife Teresa Lynne “Teri” Taylor, Sons Cory Douglas (Erin) Taylor of Castle Rock CO John Keith Taylor of Jackson WY Daughter Heidi Lyn McMillan Grandsons Michael Alan McMillan and David Ray McMillan all of Cheyenne WY Sisters Katherine Marie Stoddard of Hersey NE Barbara June Taylor of Riverton UT and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Doug was preceded in death by: His brother Lester Keith Taylor Jr. Parents Lester Keith Taylor and Opal E. Taylor, Niece Mitsi Jo Stoddard and Nephew Ronald Lee Stoddard Jr., Aunt Marie and Uncle Ivan Toburen of Cheyenne and many other family and friends.
