Douglas Lloyd Coates, 69, of Cheyenne, died after a long struggle with Parkinson Disease on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 in his home.
He was born July 21, 1948 in Casper and grew up among the cattle, teepee rings, and dinosaur bones of Field Crest Ranch.
Doug, of Doug L. Coates Architect, was well-loved for his innovative buildings; dedicated volunteer work (Rotary of Cheyenne, YMCA, Meals on Wheels, Parkinson's Support); spirited teaching at LCCC; historic, annual 29th birthday parties; and, above all, his loving sense of humor. He graduated from the University of Wyoming. Doug loved skiing, fishing, hunting, fishing, puns and spoonerisms, fishing, fossils, and fishing.
This "smart feller" is survived by his amazing wife, Roberta Coates, whom he married on August 21, 1979; three children, Richard Coates of Salt Lake City, Utah, Dr. Ryan Coates (Lindsey) of Burlington, Vermont, and Dr. Rebecca Coates of Ellensburg, Washington; four siblings, Kathleen Brooker, Lance Coates (Deborah), Ross Coates (Debra), and Bruce Coates (Paula), all of Casper; and granddaughter, Charlotte Rose Coates of Burlington.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Margaret (Klipstein) Coates.
