Dorothy (Toots) Evelyn Uhrich, 98, of Cheyenne died April 11th in Cheyenne.
She was born April 12, 1918 in Cheyenne, WY and had lived here for most of her life.
Dorothy loved her family very much and was such a selfless person with them and her many friends. She was a font of wisdom and was always interested in everyone’s lives and stories. She would listen for hours with rapt attention and in her understanding eyes, we could do no wrong. She grew up near Harriman on the family ranch and we were always a little jealous that she actually got to ride a horse to the little school on the prairie. Her best friend as a child was her much loved nanny goat and she dreamed of getting off the ranch and coming to the big town of Cheyenne, which she did at the age of 18 when she married Adam. She loved music and would listen to anybody play any instrument, and always said it was beautiful, even if it quite wasn’t. She loved to get gussied up and didn’t feel right without makeup and heels and she loved to dance at the barn gatherings. Dance cards were actually used and it was 10 cents per dance. I used to say, “the good old days” and she would counter with, “all days are good”. In her younger years she enjoyed playing cards and finding and making good deals at garage sales.
She is survived by her son, Adam Uhrich; three grandchildren, Terry (Lisa) Uhrich, Jeri Uhrich (Roob Amatruda) and Cary (Roxanne) Uhrich; five great-grandchildren, Adam (Lexi) Uhrich, Tyler Uhrich, Ethan Uhrich, Hadley Uhrich, and Isaac Uhrich and two great-great-grandchildren, Landon and Wyatt Uhrich.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Adam Uhrich; parents, Rudolph and Mary Gale and three siblings, Frank and Ed Gale and Margarite Sells.
Services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday at the 4 Mile Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Interment Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
