Dorothy Sue Heil

September 23, 1953 — March 23, 2015

Born September 23, 1953 to Inez and Nelson Lindley of Cheyenne, she passed away March 25 at her home in Salt Lake City. Known as Mom, Grandma Dorothy, Aunt Dorothy, and Dottie, she was the ninth of ten children (Sylvia, Betty, Nelson, Nancy, Harry, Donna, John, Edward, and Mary).
Dorothy fell in love with her high school sweetheart Ray Heil; they were married in 1972 and had two wonderful boys, Ray Jr. and Zach. Ray Jr. is married to Marcy and has two beautiful children Zoey (10) and Zayden (3). Zach is married to Michelle and currently living in Pittsburgh PA.
Some of Dorothy’s favorite times were watching both boys play sports growing up and the Broncos play on Sundays. She would put on her favorite shirt, turn off her phone, and refuse to be bothered until the game was over! After the loss of Ray Sr. in 2004, she reconnected with an old friend, Dean Gwaltney. The two shared many adventures over the last 10 years.
In July 2011 Dorothy was diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma Brain Cancer. She received treatment at the University of Utah Huntsman Cancer Center. We will forever be grateful for the incredible care and unwavering support she received from their doctors and staff. Her struggle showed us all what a strong and courageous women she was. While cancer ending up winning the war, she fought tremendously and won many battles. She is and always will be terribly missed, but we are grateful she is no longer suffering and comforted to know that she has been reunited with loved ones who have passed before her.
Services will be held at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of Chimes on Friday April 3rd at 10am with a reception to follow at Cheyenne-Kiwanis Community House. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to the American Cancer Society at http://main.acsevents.org/goto/zmheil
