Dorothy Cheshire of Cheyenne died February 25, 2016 at LifeCare Center in Cheyenne at the age of 99. Born January 19, 1917 to George and Christine Napton in Opal, South Dakota, Dorothy married Fred “Scotty” Cheshire on November 23, 1936 in Denver, Colorado. She was a registered nurse and was employed as a civil servant at F.E. Warren Air Force Base for many years before ending her professional career in the offices of the original Cheyenne Women’s Clinic.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Scotty, her daughter Torchy (Seslar) Haynes, sisters Evelyn Doyle, Jackie Martin, Georgie Stinson and Wilda Colvin and a brother, Richard Napton.
She is survived by grandchildren Thomas Seslar (Lisa) of Colorado Springs, Michele (Bois) Kenney of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Brian Seslar (Beth) of Caddo Mills, Texas and Theresa Price (Don) of Joplin, Missouri, greatgrandchildren Carisa Thomas (Jake), Scott Price (Shaylyn Todd) and Brian L. Seslar (Amanda) of Cheyenne, Christopher and David Bois of Laramie and Donny Price (Ashley) of Burns, 8 great-greatgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition, she is survived by many dear friends who shared the role of caretaker during her final years and the many priests of the Diocese of Cheyenne who served at St. Mary’s Cathedral who were her treasured friends, mentors and “adopted sons”.
In addition to her work as a dedicated nurse Dorothy was very active as a volunteer for the people of Cheyenne. She was active in St. Mary’s Cathedral Guild and St. Rose Circle and served in the kitchen for funerals dinners and receptions. She was a member of the founding board of directors for Needs Inc.,
Vigil for the Deceased will be held on Thursday March 3 at 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Funeral Mass will be on Friday March 4 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral with celebrant Father August Koeune, followed by internment at Memorial Gardens.
Friends may donate to the charity of their choice or one of Dorothy’s favorites; St. Mary’s School, Comea Shelter, Cheyenne Animal Shelter, St. Joseph’s Food Pantry, Needs, Inc., St. Joseph’s Children’s Home or the Diocese of Cheyenne Clergy Retirement Fund.
