On October 4, 2019, Doris Maye Sherman, 90, surrounded by her family, danced through heaven’s gates, into the arms of her beloved Jesus and Jesse.
Doris was born on February 26, 1929 to Frank Marshall Force and Orda Mary (Williams) Force in Gillette, Wy.
Doris attended college at North Western Bible Institute, Minneapolis, MN, and Black Hills State University, Spearfish, SD. She taught school in several different Wyoming counties.
Doris married Jesse J. Sherman (Jake) on Christmas, 1954 in Gillette, Wy. Together, they ventured into many businesses. Adding to the interstate trucking companies, was their final venture - Restway Travel Park. Doris enjoyed meeting new people and serving the public. She continued to work into her late 80’s.
Performing as a soloist, as well as playing piano and the organ were among Doris’ talents. Her greatest passion was sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and his salvation plan to everyone. Her faith was strong and unwavering regardless of what life’s challenges held.
Jesse, her beloved husband, six brothers and two sisters proceeded her in death.
Doris is survived by her children Debbie (Bob) Bumford, Kim (Gary) Burdick, Karen Sherman-Roberson (Gobi) Roberson, Scott Sherman; ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren. Doris has one surviving brother, Dave Force. She is also survived by her loving and dedicated caretaker, Rebecca Smith. She made life fun, mom loved her dearly. Doris will be greatly missed, but we find comfort in knowing that a grand reunion will be held in heaven.
Visitation is 9:00 am to 7:00 pm on Monday, October 14 at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel. Services will be held on Tuesday, October 15 at 1:00 p.m. at Destiny Church, with interment at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. A celebration of life reception will follow at Destiny Church.
