Doris Elaine Rauert, 92, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away Friday, November 6, 2015 at Davis Hospice Center.
She was born February 18, 1923 in Omaha, Nebraska to Zed and Clara Fitch.
She attended Grand Island Senior High before moving to Cheyenne; where she graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1941.
She married her true love, Harold “Hot Rod” Rauert on May 18, 1946 in Grand Island, Nebraska and celebrated over 64 years of marriage with her best friend.
He preceded her in death on March 1, 2011.
Doris was an active member of the community and retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in January, 1983.
Doris had a great love for fun as she enjoyed fishing, bowling, dancing, crafts, going on cruises with her love, and took great pride in her genealogy research creating volumes of books tracing her ancestors back to the Civil War.
She received many awards as a Retired and Senior Volunteer Program volunteer providing over 3,000 hours of her time to those in need.
She was an upstanding member of the Eagles, Elks, Moose, Union Pacific Employees Club, American Legion, and the Order of the Eastern Star Oak Leaf #6.
Doris loved to laugh and joke as much as she loved watching scary movies and gambling.
She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Rauert (Steve Schwartz) Cheyenne, son, Rex Rauert (Carol Dunagan) Cheyenne, two grandsons, Wade Harris, Cheyenne, Michael Krow , Berthoud, Colorado, granddaughter, Shanna (Michael) Alles, Cheyenne, five great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, three step grandchildren, and nine step great grandchildren.
A celebration of life for Doris and Harold Rauert will be held on Friday, November 20, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.
