Donald Eugene Unrein, 85, went to be with the Lord on October 2, 2019 in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
He was born on June 4, 1934, in Sterling, Colorado. He graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1952 in Sterling, and attended Northeastern Junior College, also in Sterling.
Don joined the U.S. Army in April of 1954. He underwent basic training in Ft. Ord, California, and field medic training in Ft. San Houston in San Antonio, Texas. After training, he was stationed at Ft. Carson, Colorado, and was honorably discharged from the Army in April of 1956.
He worked in the grocery/dairy business throughout his career. He worked for Busley Supermarkets and Marr Warehouse in Sterling, Colorado and Denver, Colorado. In 1963, he began working for Meadow Gold Dairy as a salesperson in Greeley, Colorado. Donald and Charlene and their three daughters lived in Greeley until transferring to Cheyenne in 1966. In 1966, he transferred to Cheyenne where he was a Branch Manager and Sales Manager for southeastern Wyoming until December of 1991. In December of 1991, he transferred to Denver as the General Manager of the Dillon Dairy milk processing plant, which processed all of the milk for the King Soopers stores throughout northern Colorado. He retired from Dillon Dairy in August of 1999.
Don was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Cathedral. He was an avid golfer, and member of the Cheyenne Airport Golf Course and Cheyenne Elk’s Club. Don spent many summers golfing with his wife Charlene, grandsons, and friends, and was on many men’s golf leagues in Denver and Cheyenne. When his grandsons were young, he loved spending time with and teaching them the wonderful game of golf.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene Unrein; daughters, Cheryl Bartlett (Bob), Debra McFadden (Kevin), and Shelly Niswender (Todd); granddaughter, Bobbie (Andrew) Woitaszewski; grandsons, Josh Pier and Jonah Pier (Shayla), Drew McFadden (Michelle), and David, Zac and Mike Niswender; great-grandchildren, Albany, Bridger, Roman, Emrick, Kaiden, Mason, and Marlee; sisters, Virginia Farner, Georgine Lechman (Glen), Louise (Guy) Tompkins, Genevieve (John) Price, and Peggy Dowis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Opal and Wendelin Unrein; and a brother, Larry Unrein.
Vigil for the Deceased will be Monday, 6:00 p.m., at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.
Funeral Liturgy will be Tuesday, 2:00 p.m., at St. Mary’s Cathedral.
Interment will follow in Olivet Cemetery.
