Donald Gifford Stoen, 93, our loving husband, father and papa, passed away on July 2, 2019 in Cheyenne.
He was born in rural Gary, Minnesota on April 22, 1926 and spent his childhood and early adult life farming outside of Gary.
Donald served in Germany as a member of the US Army’s 6th Armored Cavalry Regiment during the Korean Conflict. He taught English and Creative Writing for 25 years at Cheyenne East High School and retired from Laramie County School District #1. He was a member of the National Education Association and the Wyoming Chapter of the NEA.
Donald was a prolific writer and poet who loved language and literature. Consummate tinkerer, he loved the challenge of the puzzle and the feeling of satisfaction when he arrived at a solution.
Donald is survived by his wife of 63 years, Aina Stoen; his children, Dalen Stoen (Denise), Cindy Pfeifer, Becky Tomjack (John), Jeff Stoen (Clara) and Kim Ross (Ryan); 17 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gifford and Anna Stoen; and sister Ardis Thronson.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, July 13 at 1:00 p.m., at Ascension Lutheran Church.
