Donald Eugene Olson was born December 28, 1936, in Buckingham, CO, to Oliver M and Vida L (Quackenbush) Olson. He was delivered at home by his grandfather Dr, David G Olson, a country doctor in North Eastern Colorado. They farmed Northwest of Cheyenne before moving to Cheyenne 63 years ago. Don graduated from Campion Academy, Loveland, CO, in 1955.
He married Margaret Roby in August, 1957. They celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary, August 18th. Don worked for the Union Pacific, the City of Cheyenne, and 36 years at Cheyenne Light Fuel and Power, retiring in 1996.
Don enjoyed hunting, photography, gardening, working in his garage and helping others. He was a member of the Fast Draw Club, Cheyenne Rifle and Pistol Club, Frontier Rifle Club and a lifelong member of the NRA. He was an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and spent many hours in Bible study.
Don is survived by his wife, Margaret, three daughters Alethea (Dave) Torbert, Marlene (Jim) Shafer, and Deborah Cooley. Grandchildren, Kimberly/Brett Costa, Michael Rioux, Joseph Shafer, Steven/Emily Shafer, Aden and Jace Cooley. Three great grandchildren, Corbin/ Sawyer Costa, and Wesley Shafer. His sister Rosalyn (Ed) McVay of Cheyenne, brother and sister-in-law Jim (Alta) Roby of Cheyenne, his aunts Doris Johnston and Clarice Hatcher of Longmont, CO, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The memorial service is September 3rd at 10:00 am in the Cheyenne Seventh-day Adventist church, with Pastors Donald Barnt, John Martin, Weldon Treat and Steven Shafer officiating. Cremation and interment of the urn is under the direction of Wiederspahn Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes. Don believed in Christian education and requests donations to the memorial fund at the Laura E Mason Christian Academy or to any charity of your choice.
