Donald A. Huffsmith passed serenely Friday, June 2, 2017.
Donald was born in Denver in 1926.
He was a WWII veteran serving aboard the USS Wiley and The USS Haraden, honorably discharged to Denver from the Navy in 1946. He served in WWII with his father Andrew A. Huffsmith .
He married Clara Brunner and together raised their children for 43 years until her passing in 1989.
Donald’s career kept him in Colorado and Wyoming, most notably Newton Claims Service in Cheyenne, WY on Converse Ave from which he retired in 1989.
In 1990 Donald was blessed with his marriage to Dona B. Hirsch, where he gained not just a life partner but added 4 children to his family. Donald and Dona were married 14 years until her passing in 2004.
Donald was involved in Cheyenne Frontier Days, VFW Post 1881, where he was an active member and American Legion Post 6 where he was instrumental in the construction of the current Bingo Hall on Lincolnway Ave, and was a Past Commander and Trustee. He also played bass in his band The Noble Sound.
Donald is survived by his children: Donald A. Huffsmith, Jr. (Cathy) of Fort Collins, CO, Dana L. Dack (Michael) of Cheyenne, WY. Stepchildren Randall E. Hirsch (Gere), Bruce A. Hirsch (Cathy) Richard D. Hirsch (Georgia) and Dona Denise Grassity (Kjellin). He also had 14 Grandchildren, 12 greatgrandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 30 from 3p-6p at the VFW Post 1881, at 7th Ave and Nationway, Cheyenne, WY. Cremation services have taken place.
