Donald “Don” Keith Kauffman, 87, of Cheyenne, Wyoming died on October 20th at Davis Hospice in Cheyenne. Don was born on December 3, 1928 in El Dorado Springs, MO to John and Ellen L. Jennings Kauffman. Don attended school through the 9th grade in Pleasanton, KS. He started work at the age of 13 to help support the family when his father passed away. Don served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Donna M. Onions Kauffman on December 20, 1952 in Clayton, NM. Don and Donna started their family in Liberal, KS where their three daughters were born; Sue M. Barnard (Stan) of Cheyenne, WY, Jerra L. Kirchner (Gary), and Lee Ann Fenske (Tim) of Colbert, WA. Don and Donna moved to Torrington, WY in 1972 where they owned and operated the Western Motel before retiring in 1982.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Donna M. Onions Kauffman on May 17, 1999 and son-in-law Stan T. Barnard on October 15, 1998. Don is survived by his siblings John Kauffman of Grand Junction, CO, Ida Crail (Paul Obe, deceased); Marjorie Curry both of Liberal, KS and Virginia Schmid (Dudley) of Houston, TX, one brother-in-law Leon Onions of Liberal, KS, his daughters and son-in-laws, and several nieces and nephews. Don is also survived by his grandchildren, Jessica Kirchner Mobley (Jeff), Samantha Fenske Strait (Dylan) of Kennewick, WA, and Spencer Barnard of Cheyenne, WY and four great grandchildren.
