Domenico Joseph Amato aka “Doc” 88, of Cheyenne, passed away June 9 at Valley Hospital in Las Vegas.
Doc was born May 11th, 1928 in Syracuse, NY to Rosario & Antoinette Amato. During his youth in Syracuse he spent 20yrs with his three brothers where he held numerous jobs (newspaper boy & shoe shiner) to help support his family during a tough time in history.
Doc joined the Air Force in 1948 and relocated to Cheyenne, WY to serve during the Korean War. He held several esteemed roles with the highlight of his career being a Staff Sergeant serving as an instructor at Francis E Warren Air Force Base.
He met the love of his life, Dorothy Marie Amato, and they were married in 1950.
Doc was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1952. He joined Prudential in 1959 as an Insurance Agent serving his Cheyenne client base for 30yrs. He was extremely passionate about helping all his clients and truly treated them as extended family. He was hands down one of the best agents in the business earning himself several of the company’s most prestigious awards before retiring in 1989. After retirement, Doc continued to serve the community in several volunteer roles including Census Enumerator & Kiwanis leader.
Doc moved to Las Vegas NV in 2011, spending his final years enjoying warmer weather and being closer to family.
Doc was the type of guy who would give the shirt off his own back to take care of those he cared for. When he wasn’t working in the office he worked at home on any project he could find. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, children, grandchildren and 4wk old great granddaughter. His favorite past times included bowling, golfing, and betting the occasional parlay card while watching sports.
