Diane Lee Rieck

June 6, 1941 — January 1, 2020

Diane Lee Rieck, 78, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away peacefully, January 1, 2020, surrounded by her family.
She was born June 6, 1941, in Whittier, California, to James and Leora (Winkleman) Hoylman. The family moved to North Platte, Nebraska, before she reached school age, and she graduated from high school in North Platte in 1959. Following graduation, Diane joined the US Army and served her country as a Medical Specialist and was honorably discharged.
Diane was married to Delaine Rieck on March 28, 1962, in North Platte. She was a homemaker, and Delaine was a journeyman electrical lineman, and they relocated several times as he finished one project and moved on to the next. Their journeys included Nebraska, Colorado, Texas, Indiana, and Missouri, before they returned to Colorado and settled in Greeley.
Delaine’s electrical engineering career presented an opportunity for him to temporarily relocate to Valdez, Alaska, to work on a long-term project involving the Alaska Pipeline, and Diane joined him there. After the Pipeline was completed, they returned to Greeley; however, they had become very fond of Alaska and decided to make it their new permanent home and eventually moved back, settling in Palmer. Diane remained in Alaska for ten years before returning to Greeley and then eventually relocated to Lincoln, Nebraska, to be near her children. After several years, she returned to Greeley once more before her final destination to Cheyenne in 2008 to again be near her children.
Diane loved to cook, and her homemade lasagna was one of her specialties. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing for her children and their baby dolls. She also crocheted and completed several afghans. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing Bridge and other card games with friends. Some of her favorite things were Coca-Cola, Christmas, gardenias, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, murder mysteries, and her Cadillac. She loved family celebrations, and watching others open their Christmas gifts brought her tremendous joy.
She is survived by her daughters, Darcy (Jim) Rosales of Rapid City, SD, Dana Rieck of Cheyenne, WY, and DeAnna (Kim Bolen) Rieck of Cheyenne, WY; son, Dustin Rieck of Cheyenne, WY; brother, James Hoylman of Palmer, AK; sisters-in-law, Margie Rieck of Elkhorn, NE, Dorothy Young of Albion, NE, and Betty Chvatal, of Colon, NE; grandchildren, Matthew, Lindsey, John, Katey, and Jamey Rosales, Courtney (Landon) Hawkins, and Dylan Rieck; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Miley Hawkins, and Molley Rosales; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Leora Hoylman; brother, John Hoylman; sister, Roberta Newton; and former husband, Delaine Rieck.

Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service and interment are being scheduled for a later date at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska.
