Dena Mae Biehler

April 6, 1921 — June 11, 2014

Dena Mae Biehler, 93, of Cheyenne died June 11, 2014 in Cheyenne. She was born April 6, 1921 in Madison, South Dakota to Irwin and Virgie Flattum. The family moved shortly after her birth to the Wheatland and Chugwater area, where they farmed for years before moving to Cheyenne in 1929.

Dena was an accomplished pianist and organist and played for several churches, gave lessons, and played for the Melodrama in Cheyenne for many years. She was very active in frontier reenactments with her husband, Karl Biehler. She loved the country living style in Cheyenne, Granite Canyon, and Torrington. She loved the open spaces and taking the carriage out on good weather days.

She worked for Civil Service at F.E. Warren Air Force Base and for the VA center in Cheyenne most of her working years, but labored at a great many jobs over the earlier years to support her family.

She was preceded in death by four husbands, Jack M. Horton, Albert L. Obrion, George Bird, and Karl Biehler; daughter Helen Joyce Horton, and son Jack I. Horton.

She is survived by son Gordon G. Horton (Tim); stepdaughters Karla Morris (Mike) and Alberta LeGrand; stepsons Gary Obrion, Rex Biehler (Barbara), and Ross Biehler; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Dena did not desire formal services and will be buried alongside her parents here in Cheyenne. Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.

The family suggests memorials be made in her name to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter.
