Rev, Delbert Hansen, 71, of Cheyenne left this world on October 8th at Davis Hospice Center. Delbert was born July 16,1947 in Pleasantville, Iowa. Delbert met and married his wife Lois, January 26, 1968. They celebrated their 50th Anniversary this year.
After college, Delbert was employed by International Motor’s Truck Division for 11 years. He then worked in the irrigation industry for 9 years. At the age of 38 he entered Iliff School of Theology where he received his master’s degree. He entered the ministry as a United Methodist and served Chugwater United Methodist Church for 2 years as a student. He was appointed to Faith United Methodist Church in 1989 where he served until he retired in 2008. Along with serving Faith UMC he served as a chaplain with the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office for two years. Delbert also served as on call chaplain for CMRC for 15 years.
After retirement from Faith UMC, he served as a chaplain with the Cheyenne VA hospital where he continued serving until the time of his death.
Delbert’s passion has always been model railroading. He was a member of the Sherman Hill Model Railroad Club, along with being a member of the Frontier Lions Club, and Senior Adult Ministries.
Delbert is survived by his wife, Lois, his two sons; Randall of Aurora, CO, Dennis (Frankie) of Denver, CO and his grandson, Atticus.
He is also survived by his two brothers; Steve (Margie) of Colby, KS and Keith of Marion, IA, and several nieces and nephews
Delbert is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Joanna Hansen.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 20 at 10:00 AM at First United Methodist Church.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to either Faith United Methodist Church or Zion Congregational Church.
