David M. “Sammy” McInerney, 85, of Cheyenne died April 1st in Cheyenne.
He was a native son of Cheyenne and Wyoming. He was born August 18, 1932 to John J. and Nell M. McInerney. He was a life time member of St. Mary’s Cathedral. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1951 and was in the real estate and insurance business with his brother, John, for 22 years. He then worked for Ed Murray and Sons, Herz Realty, the State of Wyoming, from which he retired, and finally the Albany Liquor Mart.
He was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus and a 50 year volunteer for Cheyenne Frontier Days Parade Committee and the Cheyenne Frontier Days Silver HEELS.
His grandfather, John A. Martin was the Secretary of the First Frontier Committee and his father was the General Chairman of the Frontier Committee in 1916.
Sammy also enjoyed being a member of the Airport Golf Club.
He married Rosemary Sandwell on October 11, 1961 in Cheyenne. They had five wonderful children. He enjoyed his Irish heritage, fishing and talking with his many friends.
Sammy is survived by his wife; children, Timothy (Alison) McInerney, Michael (Laura) McInerney, William (Debbie) McInerney, Sheila McInerney (Kim Kenneaster), and Thomas McInerney; grandchildren, T.C., Maddy, and Zac.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John and daughter-in-law, Sandy McInerney.
Vigil for the Deceased will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m., followed by the Funeral Liturgy at 2:00 p.m., at St. Mary’s Cathedral.
