Darlene Katherine Massoni

August 2, 1938 — March 23, 2025

Ault, Colorado

On March 23, 2025, a glorious Sunday morning, as the sun rose over the farm, we lost the life of the party—a beautiful, passionate woman with a creative and artistic soul and a wonderful mother of three daughters.

Darlene Katherine (Flohr) Massoni, 86, formerly of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away peacefully at home. Born on August 2, 1938, in Kimball, Nebraska, Darlene was raised on a farm with her extended family, including her strict Lutheran minister grandfather who preached in German until the war. Her upbringing instilled in her a deep sense of faith and resilience that shaped her entire life.

Darlene married Dick Bunn in Cheyenne on April 14, 1956. Their journey led them to Salt Lake City, where they welcomed their first daughter, Karen, followed by moves to Ogden, Utah (where Wendy was born), and then Fort Collins, Colorado (where Tonia joined the family). In 1972, they moved to Worland, Wyoming. After divorcing Dick in 1974, Darlene returned to Cheyenne with her daughters. After Tonia graduated from high school, Darlene moved to Phoenix for a fresh start. She worked at Blue Cross Insurance in Phoenix for 10 years and was briefly married to Frank Massoni before returning to Cheyenne in 2004, where she remained deeply connected to her family and community. She left Cheyenne in 2018 to live her remaining days with her daughters, Tonia, in Wellington, and Karen and Tammi, in Ault.

A woman of remarkable talent, Darlene excelled in sales, administration, insurance, and real estate. Her civic engagement included serving on the Cheyenne City Council. Her creative and artistic soul shone through in the Halloween costumes she lovingly crafted, her passion for antiquing, her ability to refinish furniture, and the oil paintings she created over the years.

Darlene’s sparkling personality made her the light and life of every party. Her wit was unmatched, and she was always ready for a good time, especially when cowboys were involved. She was a devoted fan of George Strait, finding joy and connection in his music and spirit.

Darlene's life was one of love, laughter, and kindness, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire those who knew her. She was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fort Collins and volunteered her time as an elementary school room mother, Camp Fire Girl leader, Girl Scout leader, and 4H leader. Her unwavering love for animals enriched her family's life, as she raised or supported a variety of pets, including rabbits, cats, dogs, ducks, horses, goats, sugar gliders, and even a rat.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness. Darlene is survived by her sister, Beverly Calhoun of Casper, Wyoming; her daughters, Karen Mora (Tammi Sullivan), Wendy McGarvin (David), and Tonia Massoni; her grandchildren, Danielle Mora, Jan Gordon (Ashley Myers), Jeren Gordon (Charidee), and Danae Switzer (Trey); seven great-grandchildren; her cherished dachshund, Sophie; and her bob-tailed cat, Monkey Butt.

Darlene's creativity, compassion, and vibrant spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
