Connie (Boyles) Hand, also known as “The Energizer Bunny of Cheyenne” recently had her battery run out.
Connie was born on November 27,1937 in Casper and grew up in the community of Poison Spider. She graduated from Natrona County High School and won first place in the Natrona County spelling bee. She finished second in the statewide contest.
Upon graduation, she was awarded a lifetime scholarship to Casper College (the proverbial golden ticket.) While a student at the College, she also worked at Pan American Petroleum. It was during this time that a colleague, Mr. Tom Heuer, introduced her to his brother-in-law, Richard Hand. No one knows what she saw in him, but everyone knew she was the best thing that ever happened to him. They were married in 1958 and raised two sons, Michael and Brian.
Connie was fond of saying that during her nearly eighty years of life, she had four twenty-year careers. The first as a child, the second as a homemaker and mother, the third as a working woman, and the fourth as a retiree. She enjoyed each in its own way.
To know Connie was to love her. The hardships she endured gave strength to her friends. She was always dressed up with her makeup on-even if she was only going to the gym or to the mountain. She was thoughtful of everyone; she always sent birthday cards, thankyou cards, or notes of encouragement. She never said no to any invitation, adventure, or request for assistance. Even though she is gone from this world, her spirt, her love, and her example will live on in the heart of everyone she touched.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard (Dick), and her youngest son, Brian. She is survived by her son Michael of Cheyenne and her younger sister Kay of Casper.
A funeral mass for Connie will be at 10:30 AM Saturday at St. Mary’s Cathedral.
