Clifford Kenneth Gertsch, 92, of Cheyenne, died August 15, 2015 at Davis Hospice Center. He was born August 11, 1923 in Columbus, Nebraska to Paul and Helen (Aerni) Gertsch. He had lived in Cheyenne since 1973 with prior residence in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Clifford served in the U. S. Army in The Pacific Theater and The Philippines during World War II. He was a decorated war veteran awarded the Bronze Star and 3 purple hearts. On January 21, 1945, after he returned from his military service, he married Betty Mary Royster .
He was a member of the American Legion Post 6, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Moose Lodge. He was active in cattle ranching in Colorado and Wyoming.
He began his construction career working with his father in Loveland, Colorado. He built homes in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Rock Springs, Laramie and Cheyenne, Wyoming. In partnership with his son, Paul Gertsch, he developed the Century Hills Subdivision.
Clifford is survived by three children: Paul Gertsch (Jeanne), Karen Caruana (Dennis) and Susan Ferguson. He is also survived by his grandchildren and his great- grandchildren, one sister, Shirley Schneider (Gary), and 2 brothers, Ted Gertsch (Sharon) and Carol Gertsch (Yvonne) and sister-in-law Bobbie Gertsch.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Helen Gertsch, his wife, Betty Mary Gertsch, an infant son, and his brother, Marvin Gertsch.
A memorial service will be at First United Methodist Church in Cheyenne, WY at 1PM on Saturday, August 22 with Reverend Mark Marstrom officiating.
