Clarice Gaye Brown, age 90, died Mar.12 after a long and well lived life. She was born Nov.8,1934 in Afton, WY to parents Clarence and Gladys Hunter. After living in Cody, Wy throughout her early childhood, her family moved to Rawlins where she graduated from Rawlins High School in 1951. After moving to Cheyenne, she was employed by Cheyenne Light, Fuel and Power as a switchboard operator until she turned her efforts to being a wife and doting mother to her three daughters Wendy Clauson (David), Susan Payne (Marshall), and Nancy Waller (John). She worked as an Avon Lady, much to her daughters’ delight, so she could spend time at home. She made numerous friends at that time, who remained life-long friends thereafter.
On Oct 2,1963 she married the love of her life, Stephen J. Brown. To that union they were blessed with a son Stephen K. Brown. In subsequent years she worked for Albertsons and Max Foods as a bookkeeper. Clarice was an avid vocalist, belonging to her church choir, numerous city choirs and musical interests including City Sounds and Capital Chorale. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church for 72 years. The Browns welcomed all into their home with love and laughter. They shared what they had with neighbors, strangers and wayward travelers stranded in Cheyenne during snowstorms.
Clarice is survived by her children, 11 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by grandson Bryson, great grandson Wyatt and by her husband of 55 years. She will join him and other family members in God’s Kingdom having lived a life full of love, friendship and caring.
