Charles “Chuck” Tafoya, 78, of Cheyenne, died Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Bonaventure in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
He was born April 27, 1937 in Fort Collins, Colorado, a son to Leo and Benerisa (Maxwell) Tafoya. At a young age Chuck moved to Cheyenne with his family and attended schools, graduating from Cheyenne High School in 1956. He attended LCCC where he received his associate’s degree.
Chuck married Wanda Sutton in 1960. They were later divorced. Chuck married Carol J. Knittle on June 20, 1981 in Cheyenne. Chuck worked for the Cheyenne Police Department for 20 years and the Sheriff’s Office for 6 years.
He attended Cheyenne Alliance Church, was involved with Hands in Harmony for 13 years. He loved to sing Gospel and with the Tafoya singers made an album. In younger years he played Church softball and basketball, and recently liked watching his nieces play softball. He also liked the Denver Broncos.
Survivors include his wife Carol of Cheyenne; a son, Jason Tafoya of Cheyenne; daughters, Kim Tafoya of Cheyenne; Krista (Jeremy) Cotton of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two grandchildren, Brayden and Parker Cotton, both of Colorado Springs; three brothers, Al Tafoya of Phoenix, Arizona; Mel Tafoya of Lander, Wyoming; Jack Tafoya of Florida; and three sisters, Maxine Spencer and Beverly Tafoya, both of California; and Joy Pierson of Cheyenne.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Edward and Lee Tafoya; and three sisters, Cora Paulson; Marge Payne and Shirley Luzania.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 4, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Cheyenne Hills Church. Interment will follow at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
Casket Bearers will be Jason Tafoya; Don Heiduck, Adam Winn, Matthew Willmarth, Aaron Willmarth and Jeremy Cotton.
