Caroline Mataya/Doran Schiele passed away peacefully in Springfield, Oregon on November 18, 2019. She was born on August 21, 1934, in Madrid, Iowa to Vance and Penechie Mataya.
Caroline married Paul Doran in June of 1954 and had three loving daughters Dawn (Rick) Hill, Cynthia (Robert Oberndorf) Regalado and Cathy (Dale) Eppert. They spent their married life in Madrid, Iowa, Cheyenne and Carpenter, Wyoming where they enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and caring for the menagerie at the Doran Zoo.
Several years after Paul passed away Caroline met and married Gary Schiele and moved to Springfield, Oregon. Through this marriage she gained two more loving daughters: Jeana (Todd) Dittmer and Robbi (Kevin) Crain. Caroline went from gardening in the dry dirt clods of Carpenter, Wyoming to toiling in the rich soil of the Willamette Valley. Her secret garden was enjoyed by family and friends and was soon discovered by the master gardeners of Eugene. She was included on the Eugene/Springfield Garden Tour.
Alzheimers began stealing Caroline ten years ago little by little. It gave all of her family a chance to get used to the idea that we would have to live without her.
Caroline is survived by her husband Gary Schiele, all five of her daughters, her sister Dolores (Bill) Geneser, brothers Harry Mataya, John Mataya and Lou (Sandy) Mataya, and her sister-in-law Doris Mataya. She has 14 grandchildren: Kenna (Matt) Vosler, James “Butch” Hill, Lane (Leslie) Hill, Morgan Regalado, Maxden Regalado, Joshua Smith, Tony (Jennifer) Smith, Preston Ullrich, Peyton Ullrich, Kinna Dittmer, Macy Dittmer, Cal Dittmer, Blake Crain, and Ashley Crain, 7 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Paul, brother Pastor Joseph Mataya and sister-in-laws Pat and Delores Mataya.
A Memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at Cheyenne Evangelical Free Church , 7006 North College Drive. Interment of urn will be in Memorial Gardens at a later date. Cremation has taken place.
