Brigadier General (Retired) Roy E. “Bud” Cooper, 91, of Cheyenne, died on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 in Sun City West, Arizona.
He was born on November 13, 1923 in Napa, Idaho to William and Ella Cooper.
General Cooper served 42 years in the U.S. Air Force, serving in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. After his service, he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General in April of 1961 and became the Wyoming Air Guard’s first General officer. He was instrumental in organizing the Wyoming Air National Guard with the late General Esmay. General Cooper concluded his career on November 13, 1983 and in August of 2007 he was inducted into the Wyoming Aviation Hall of Fame. He continued meeting with Guard members weekly after his retirement and participated in Daedalians.
He is survived by his wife Maxine Cooper of Cheyenne; a daughter, Sandra Kaiser of Cheyenne; a stepdaughter, Ann Zumo (Tom) of Cheyenne; and step-grandchildren, Christopher and Jacob Zumo, both of Cheyenne, Captain Ryan McGonigle of San Diego, California, and Sarah Prescott of Michigan.
He was preceded in death by a son William J. Cooper; and his parents.
Life Commemoration services will be on Saturday, 10:00 a.m., at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.
