Billy Guy Williams, 85 of Cheyenne went home to be with the Lord on August 29, surrounded by his family.
Billy was born June 9, 1931 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He and his wife, Barbara Woolsey were married shortly after graduation from Cheyenne High School in 1950 and fell just days short of being married for 66 years.
He was a proud member of the Wyoming Air National Guard and served in Korea and Vietnam.
He apprenticed to Powers Builders Supply as a brick mason following in his grandfather’s footsteps, and laid brick until 1983, when arthritis forced his retirement. He participated in building many prominent structures in town, including DePaul Hospital, the downtown post office, and the Governor’s mansion. He finished his career as a truck driver, first with Black Hills Trucking, and finally with Roadway.
He was a loadmaster with the Air National Guard and retired in 1989, as a SMSgt.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, with a love for the outdoors and spent much of his free time camping with his family.
He was a member of the Northwoods Presbyterian Church and assisted in building the structure in which they currently worship.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite Consistory, the Cheyenne Shrine Club, and the Frontiersman, a uniformed body of the Shriner’s.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Ruby Williams; a sister Rena Holmes, a daughter, Cynthia McGeehee and a grandson, Stephen Knox.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Woolsey) Williams, whom he married, September 8, 1950; siblings, Robert (Jean) Williams, Virginia Fenske and Lynda (Enoch) Baumgardner of Torrington; children, Janet DeGroat, David (Wendy) Williams of Virginia, Cheryl Porter, Sharon (Al) Auzqui; grandchildren, Edward (Erin) Miller, Robert (Katie) DeGroat, April (Mike) Matthie, Malissa DeGroat, Tommy (Jennifer) Porter, Joseph Williams of Tacoma, Washington, Stephanie (Greg) Trujillo, Becky (Ian) Bracewell of Tacoma, Washington, Jennifer (Fred) Pillivant; and 21 great grandchildren.
Services will be held Friday at 10:00 am at the Northwoods Presbyterian Church, 4723 Griffith Avenue.
