Bette Heck died Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Davis Hospice Center after a lengthy illness.
Elizabeth (Bette) Ann was born to Louis and Katherine Doell on March 23, 1931 on the family farm in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Bette married Donald Heck on May 19, 1955 in Anchorage, Alaska. Don died suddenly in 1965 and several years later, Bette moved from Alaska to Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Bette was a fiercely independent woman, she had an amazing work ethic and a love for the construction industry. She was not intimidated by anyone and her rough exterior was complimented by a heart of gold. Bette was still doing bookkeeping into her late seventies. She loved to travel and made many international trips. Bette was an avid bowler and enjoyed travel with the league. She was a tireless volunteer at Saint Mary’s School in the early 80’s as well as at the Old West Museum. She was a die-hard fan of the Colorado Rockies and rarely missed a game.
Bette became a Mom and Grandma to Shawn and Brooke in 1985 when they moved to Cheyenne and into her home. She was there for them until the day she died.
Bette was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister Kathyleen, sister Annamay and her husband Don. She is survived by her brother Louie, sister Pearle, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and her daughter Shawn (Keith) Zabka and granddaughter Brooke Zabka.
