Benigno (Ben) Candelaria, 85, died Friday, June 6, 2014 at Kaiser Vallejo Hospital, in Vallejo, CA.
He was born February 14, 1929 in Las Vegas, NM to Leandro Candelaria and Stella Garcia, brother to Conferina Griego, Edward Candelaria, Aurora Trujillo and Emma Garcia.
Ben served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Returning home he married Mary Gonzales on December 28, 1950. He came to Cheyenne where he worked for the UP Railroad for 35 years.
Mr. Candelaria volunteered for St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and served in the American Legion Honor Guard for 15 years. He loved to hunt and fish.
Survivors include his children, Nick Candelaria of Poplar Bluff, MO; Rod Candelaria of Thornton, CO; Kathy Inskeep of Thornton, CO; and Andrea Quintero of Vallejo, CA; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Candelaria; and sons, George and Leonard Candelaria.
Vigil for the deceased will be at 6:00 p.m., Monday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Funeral Liturgy will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, also at the Church. Cremation will take place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens following the Vigil. Interment of his urn will be at Olivet Cemetery following the Liturgy.
