Barbara Jean Smith, 84, of Cheyenne died Friday, March 13, 2015 at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.
She was born August 16, 1930 in Parco, Wyoming, moving to Casper in the 1940’s and later to Cheyenne.
Barbara played bass drum in the Natrona County High School marching band, won many swing dancing contests and graduated from NCHS in 1949.
She met Jay Smith at the Junior Follies in 1949. They were married on Easter Sunday, April 9, 1950. They moved to Cheyenne in 1958 with their three boys.
Barbara was active in politics and ran Stan Hathaway’s campaign office in Cheyenne in the 60’s.
She was longtime President of the Cheyenne Women’s Bowling Association and was elected to the CWBA Hall of Fame in 1995. She even picked up the big four split (4-6-7-10).
Barb loved music and enjoyed gambling trips with her family and friends to Las Vegas and Blackhawk. She played video poker machines and hit many big jackpots. She was the high winner on most trips.
She is survived by her husband, Jay; three sons, Jim Smith and Bill Smith, both of Cheyenne and Ken Smith of Gilbert, Arizona and a sister, Betty Oakley of Denver, Colorado.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Bertha Attebery and a sister, Ila May Oakley.
Viewing will be Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday at Lakeview Cemetery with Rev. Sandi Dillon officiating.
