Barbara Jean Peterson, 92, of Cheyenne, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Oct 14, 2023 at Good Samaritan Society Village in Loveland, CO.
She was born on Nov. 2, 1930, at home, on Sheep Creek near Henry, NE to Prudence Vivian Haegan and Orin Holbrook Wertz. She was raised on that farm and graduated from Torrington, WY High School in 1948.
Barbara furthered her education at Kay Isaacson’s Professional Oil Coloring. She was known for her work in restoration work on photographs and worked on original photos of Abraham Lincoln.
She married Lloyd Peterson on Dec 9, 1949. They opened and worked in their photographic studios in Torrington and then Cheyenne, Wyoming until retirement in 1994.
Barbara was awarded the degree of Photographic Craftsman in 1975 and served as President of Wyoming Professional Photographers Association from 1977-78. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star 22 of Torrington and Mizpah 36 Order. She was a member of Tamah Temple Daughters of
the Nile in Rawlins and the Cheyenne Alpha Club.
Barbara is survived by her three sons, Jerry and wife Nadine, Tom and
wife Debra, and David and wife Laura Peterson; as well as 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd in 2022; her two sisters, Beth and Phyllis; and two brothers, F.D. and Bill.
The family would like to thank the staff, especially the nurses and CNA’s, of Good Samaritan Loveland Valley, Loveland, CO and Pathways Hospice Care for their wonderful care.
There will be a Celebration of Life service at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Ft. Collins, CO on Nov. 10th at 1:00pm with a light reception to follow. Afterward the family will travel to Cheyenne for the internment at
Memorial Gardens.
