Antonia Maria Chariez, also known as Toni, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2024, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, at the age of 88. She was born on June 10, 1935, in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Antonia was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Antonia was a compassionate soul who cherished her family above all else. Her unconditional love and generosity knew no bounds. She was always there to lend a helping hand, whether it was assisting with bills, preparing a warm meal, or offering a place to stay. You didn't have to be related to her, to be the best Tia (auntie). Antonia's door was always open, and her kind words and bright smile brought comfort to all who knew her.
She had a zest for life, especially when it came to Saturday night Mexican dances. Antonia's cooking skills were legendary, with dishes like potato salad Menudo, Chile Colorado, and her famous tortillas leaving a lasting impression on all who tasted them.
In her professional life, Antonia held various jobs, from being a waitress and seamstress to owning her own restaurants. Despite having three strokes, and a broken hip, and knee replacement. Her final job was as a senior companion for 28 years, where she brought joy and companionship to those in need. She was also well known in the community. Antonia was nominated for the prestigious Wyoming Jefferson Award.
Outside of work, Antonia enjoyed crafting, sewing quilts, playing games on her tablet or at the casinos, and most of all, dancing. Her favorite pastime was spending quality time with her family, creating cherished memories together. Especially with her son, Leroy, who she was so proud of.
Antonia is survived by her son, Leroy Romero (Peggy); daughter, Sylvia Romero; sister, Maryann Sands; a very special friend, Bonnie Gardea; niece, Carmen Garcia, grandchildren, Chris, Eddie, Josh, Desiree Candace, Celeste, Justina, Carrolynn, Josephine, and Gabriel; numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, four brothers, and one granddaughter.
Antonia’s Viewing will be on Thursday, June 6, from 10-4:00 p.m., which will be held at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel. The funeral service will take place on June 7th at 10 am, at Restoration Fellowship, 522 Capital Ave. followed by a graveside service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Wyoming Senior Companion Program, Cheyenne Regional Cancer Center, or Davis Hospice in Antonia's honor. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were touched by her love and kindness. Although we'd like to mention everyone the family would like to Thank everyone who came forward in providing help in the time of Antonia sudden illness.
