Anthony Darryl “Tony” Turner, 61, of Cheyenne passed away on November 2, 2022 in Cheyenne.
Tony attended Central High School and was an exceptional athlete who held many athletic accolades.
In football he played on two state champion teams.
In basketball, He was a two -time recipient of the all-state award and was an avid participant in leading his team to two state championships.
In track, he held multiple championships in the 400 meters, triple jump and 4x4 relay.
Tony’s greatest athletic accolade was being named as the Milward Simpson
Outstanding Male Athlete in the state of Wyoming. The award is presented, annually, to the most outstanding male and female high school seniors in the state of Wyoming. It is considered the most prestigious award an athlete can earn in their high school career.
His athletic excellence and intellect led him to play basketball for Kentucky State University, Abilene Christian University and Central Wyoming College where he obtained his Associates of Art Degree.
Tony would utilize his Associates of Art Degree, to become a superlative salesperson and later teach, mentor and coach students in the Laramie County School District 1.
Tony’s greatest personal achievement was the birth of his son Anthony.
Tony loved his Family and friends. To his family, coaches and friends, Tony was intelligent, humorous, competitive, charismatic, handsome, stylish, classy and the life of a party. He loved music and loved to dance.
Throughout his life, he worked hard to enhance his life and skill sets while taking the time to mentor others regardless of his circumstance.
Tony is loved and will be truly missed!
Tony is survived by his son Anthony Turner (DAndrea), Grandaughter Jaelyn Turner, brother Lance Lyons (Rochelle), Angela King, Yvette Turner, Cheryl Beeler (Bryant) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Janice Turner-Tyler, sister Michelle Turner, Grandmother Katherine Turner, Grandfather Amos Turner, Aunts Mary Black and Beverly Markham and Uncle Willie Markham.
In honor of Tony and his deep concern for the homeless, in lieu of flowers, the family would like to request that donations go to the Comea House and Resource Center,
Services will be Friday, 2:00 p.m., at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.
