Andrew Allen “Bad Andy” Willett, 70, was born to Robert and Martha Willett on August 2, 1954, in Columbus, Ohio. He passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024, surrounded by many that he most loved.
Andy moved to Cheyenne in 1965 where he attended Our Savior Lutheran, Fairview Elementary, Buffalo Ridge Elementary, Carey Jr. High and East High school.
He joined the U.S. Army in 1971 at the age of 17, where he served at Ft. Hood, Texas, Korea, and Ft. Lewis Washington as a Tank Turret Mechanic. He was honorably discharged in 1975.
After returning to Cheyenne, he met and married Cindy D. Brown in 1975. They had two children and were married for 11 years.
Andy and his wife Lari began dating in 1986 where they were instantly inseparable. They were later married on March 6, 1993, in Phoenix, Arizona. She brought 3 children into Andys life, and they became the perfect blended family with unbreakable bonds.
From a young age, Andy began following in his father’s footsteps developing a natural love for things mechanical and spending time in his father’s junkyard. This love led him to a short career in Stock Car racing with his family by his side as his biggest fans. Many weekends you would find 3 generations of the Willett family supporting him as the pit crew and cheering him on from the stands.
After his car racing days his love transitioned to motorcycles, which quickly became his enjoyment in life. He and Lari rode thousands of miles traveling to many states and meeting the best people along the way. He also enjoyed spending time in nature and camping with family and friends, making many memories of mountain shenanigans.
His ability to fix damn near anything led him to a career as heavy equipment mechanic and operator. He worked 28 years for Reed Ready Mix (later Simon Contractors) where he eventually retired as Shop Manager. In retirement he worked at Seal Masters Cheyenne, where he worked part time until his health began to fail.
Andy is survived by his wife and love of his life for 39 years, Lari. His five children, Angela (RJ) Massengill, Colby (Selena) Willett, Misty Dawn Leyo, Evan (Brittany) Maurer, and Jeff (Lydia) Stoll. His bonus children Mark and Kerrie (Squeeks) Twito. Fourteen grandchildren: Trystan, Brianna and Riley Massengill; Jalen and Chayce (Nikayla) Willett; Kanen and Lilly Bumford; Gage and Danika Maurer; Jessie Yanson, Tony and Jacob Stoll; Zander and Ava Twito. He is also survived by two sisters, Diana (Sean) McNamara, Laura Cooper; one brother Bobby (Terry) Willett; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bob and Marty Willett; brother Johnny Willett, and one grandchild Lance Maurer.
Andy will be remembered as a great man, son, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will always be in our hearts and will be watching over the family he loved so dearly. He had a life well lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to honor Andy animal rescue of your choice and make a donation.
