Allen Chandler, 89, of Cheyenne, WY, died November 13, 2019 from complications of pneumonia, leaving his beloved wife of 67 years, Ernestine “Ernie” Garcia Chandler. Allen was born in Malden, MA, on October 29, 1930.
Allen served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and retired from the Wyoming Air National Guard in 1990. While stationed at F.E. Warren AFB, Allen met “Ernie” while out with his friends impressing her with his rosary.
He was employed by National Cash Register Company for 19 years and then by the State of Wyoming until he retired in 1988. Allen was an honorary life member of the Elks as well as an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. He was also a member of the CFD Heels organization serving as its president, the Leather Heel (1994-1996). Allen was a co-owner of Harry’s Pizza and a member of the Chamber of Commerce.
He was predeceased by his parents, George and Lily (Rollason) Chandler, his brother George, his in-laws Leo and Tivi Garcia, and nephews Jimmy Garcia and Christopher McQuade.
Surviving Allen are his wife “Ernie”, sister Joan Anderson and brother-in-law WIlliam, sister-in-law Jeanne Chandler, brothers-in-law Leo (Doris) Garcia, George (Sharon) Garcia and Rudy (Daisy) Garcia along with nieces, Susan, Judy, Janet, Chrissy, Cathy, Susie, Meri, Marni, Lori, Christine and Elizabeth “Buzzy” and nephews Scott, Allen, Steven, Ted and Boris, many great-nieces and great-nephews and all of their families.
Allen was a handyman who could build or fix most anything for his family, friends, church or anyone who was in need of help. He will be greatly missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Welcome Mat, 907 Campbell Avenue, Cheyenne, 82001, or the donors’ choice. Viewing will be held November 16 from 9-4 pm and Monday from 9-Noon at Wiederspahn Radomsky Chapel. A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Monday November 18th at 2pm at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
