Evonne passed away on February 16 after fighting a series of illnesses and injuries for better than a decade. After each set- back she would rally and find a way to continue on until her last illness. She was born on June 2, 1955, in Laramie WY to A.R. (Rex) Rogers and Margaret N. (Holseapple) Rogers. Evonne graduated from Riverton High School in 1973 and initially went to the University of Wyoming on a full scholarship. She ultimately graduated from U.W. with a BS degree in Mathematics in 1983 after an interruption in her academic career, finishing her degree a few classes at a time.
Evonne married her soul mate in 1983 and she and her husband Ron were blessed with the birth of their daughter Corinne in 1992.
Evonne made a career in computer programming/ computer systems administration. She worked as a programmer/analyst for UW Atmospheric Science, UW computer services, and then worked for a while as a consultant on the pilot program in Wyoming to move food stamp and child nutrition benefits to smart cards. She then went to work for the State of Wyoming and was the Y2K coordinator for the state to prevent system failures due to the millennium problem. She finished her career as the telecom administrator for the state when illness forced her retirement. In addition to her other work activities Evonne was also a farm wife after she and Ron moved the family farm near Albin WY upon the retirement of Ron’s folks in 1987. She cheerfully and enthusiastically helped with all the farm activities, running equipment, driving truck, delivering hay and being a mechanic – all while raising a garden, managing accounting and all the other sundry chores, relaxing with cross-stitch and crocheting projects in her spare time.
Evonne was a Majority Member of Job’s Daughters and started working as an adult leader around 1985, working with the girls for almost 30 years (18 of those years before her daughter was old enough to join). She served on Bethel councils in Laramie and Cheyenne, ultimately acting as a Bethel guardian for four different bethels. She also served as Grand Bethel Guardian of Wyoming and Grand Guardian of Wyoming. She had a passionate belief in the growth and development, and compassionate support for Jobie’s. One of her proudest moments was receiving the Degree of Royal Purple recognizing her efforts.
She was also a committed member of the Order of the Eastern Star, working and sharing with her sisters and brothers of Burns Chapter #41 for 27 years. She served at various times a Worthy Matron, and was the meals chairman, planning, coordinating and cooking for the various meal projects used by the chapter as fund raisers.
