Albert “Al” Weinzierl, 73, passed away on November 23, 2024 . He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, nephew and friend. He will be deeply missed by his family and all that knew him.
Al was born on May 25, 1951 in Bloomington, IL. While he was growing up, he lived in several small towns in Central Illinois, but most of those years were spent in Eureka, Illinois where he graduated from Eureka High School in 1969. He worked for Wonder Bread and Hostess Cake for 27 years and then Crete Consolidated for 18 years. In both careers he was known for his hard work and leadership. More than that though, his good nature, humor, and ability to make fast friends with the many people he interacted with each day are what most will remember.
Above all, he was a devoted husband and family man. Al was proud of all his children, taking any opportunity to work them into a conversation. Given any chance, he made sure to make time to visit aunts, uncles, cousins and siblings. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren, often planning and using his vacation time to travel with them or to see them. When it came to talking about family, he never allowed words like “half,” “step”, or “in-law.” You were just one of his.
Al is survived by his loving wife, Jan; his children Randall and Angie Weinzierl, Rodney and Christi Weinzierl, Betania and Mike Jervey, Krysta Schlis and Jae Cho; and grandchildren Jacob, Cassie, Angelika, Mak, Aiden, Gavin, Anorrah, Ben, Issac, Olivia and Eleanor; brother Richard (Juanita) Amerman and sisters Ruth (Lyle) Blundell and Hope (Jerry) Hillyer.
Al is preceded in death by his parents, Albert Weinzierl, Charles “Chuck” and Yvonne Amerman, and sisters, Bonnie Weinzierl and Sheila (Tom) Yepsen.
His family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to Life Care Center of Cheyenne who showed Al and them so much love, care, compassion and friendship during his time there.
A date and time for services and a Celebration of Life are still to be determined.
