Alan Ray Sergeant (Sarge) arrived on July 14, 1948 in Burlington, Iowa to Lyman B. and Ferne F. Sergeant. He was raised in the rural setting of small town America of Pleasant Grove, Iowa. Older brother Bruce and younger brother Jeff joined him for this journey. That small town also held maternal grandparents John and Myrtle Jacoba and paternal grandparents Ray and Margaret Sergeant. His Uncle Robert and Aunt Adella Giffin and first cousins Carol, Dave and Michael were also in Pleasant Grove.
Al, or Red, as he was known then because of his bright hair color,
attended a one room country school house with his older brother for three years. He then attended Yarmouth grade school and graduated from Mediapolis High School in 1966. He attended Burlington Community College and the University of Iowa before joining the US Navy in 1968. He was stationed at Subic Bay in the Philippines for the majority of his tour.
Alan married Christine Jackson August 13, 1977 in Coughlin Meadows, west of Boulder, Colorado. Alan and Chris moved back to Iowa where Alan studied electronics at Southeastern Iowa Community college. After receiving a degree in Electronics, Al and Chris moved back to Colorado, settling in Longmont. He worked at several different technology companies in Boulder County through the course of his career.
Alan was an avid fisherman, loyal husband, good friend and he thoroughly enjoyed life.
Alan is survived by his wife, Christine Sergeant, brothers Bruce (Maureen), Jeff (Connie), sister in-law Carolyn Fromm (Steve Patterson), mother in-law Mary Ellen Jackson, nephew Justin Jones, and niece Kathy Bonser (Chad).
Alan was preceded in death by parents Lyman and Ferne Sergeant, father-in-law Alfred Jackson, and nephew Robert Fromm.
There will be a celebration of Alan (Sarge) Sergeant’s Life on Saturday afternoon Sep 19 @ 2pm. It will be held at the Longmont American Legion Post 32 @ 315 S Bowan St Longmont, CO 80501. Bring your memories and smiles.
