Alan Patrick Buzzard, 61, beloved son of the late Barbara and Donald Buzzard, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2017. Alan was born December 8, 1955, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and had lived his life in the special needs community in Cheyenne, Lander and Casper.
In the early 1960’s, Alan’s mother, Barbara, was instrumental in establishing programs for the developmentally disabled at the former HA Woods School in Casper, Wyoming. From 1964 to 1976 Alan resided at the Wyoming Resource Center in Lander and was chosen to be one of the first individuals to live and work in the community-based program provided by Magic City Enterprises in Cheyenne. Alan worked in numerous hotels/motels in the Cheyenne area. Upon his retirement, Alan was the proprietor of a small snack shack selling a variety of drinks, snacks and easy to eat meals to the employees and clients at Magic City.
Alan is survived by his sister Donna B. Winters of Colorado Springs, brother, James R. Buzzard of Aurora, Illinois, sister Claire Ley of Cheyenne, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Francis.
Alan had an infectious smile and warm outgoing personality that enchanted and touched the heart of everyone he met. He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Alan’s life is scheduled at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 6, 2017 at St. Mary’s Cathedral.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the ARC, Special Olympics, or other local organizations that support individuals with special needs.
