Robert Norman Anderson

December 14, 1937 — May 19, 2024

Robert Norman Anderson was born on December 14, 1937 in Los Angeles, California where he learned to swim in the Pacific Ocean. Robert completed high school in Cheyenne, WY while his father was stationed at FE Warren AFB. Bob married Joyce Anita Johnson of Cheyenne in 1960. He graduated from the University of Wyoming in August 1926, where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, after barely passing French. There he made a lifelong friend in R. Lynn Kirlin. Robert enlisted as a reservist in the US Air Force upon graduation, following the career path of his father and older brother, achieving the rank of Captain and subsequently had assignments in Oregon, Thailand, New Mexico, Montana, Mississippi, and an extended time in San Antonio, Texas. Robert had the challenging assignment of teaching ROTC at the University of Montana, Missoula during the Vietnam war. Robert later re-enlisted as a non-commissioned officer. In the 1970s Robert quit smoking cold turkey after a scare with throat cancer. He became an adamant non-smoker. Robert retired from the Air Force in San Antonio and worked as both a real estate agent and a substitute school teacher specializing in Government. Robert eventually settled in his wife's hometown of Cheyenne where he raised his granddaughter Abigail Wolfe. Three of Robert’s grandchildren, Haley, Grace, and Abigail Wolfe, lived with Robert and Joyce in Cheyenne. Over time Robert transformed from a strict disciplinarian to a compassionate grandfather. In his later years Robert was cared for by his granddaughter, Grace Wolfe. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Helen Anderson as well as his older brother Ronald Cameron Anderson. He is survived by his two children, Lesley Nicole Heffner and Ronald Eugene Anderson, his wife Joyce, as well as four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Interment and graveside service will be held June 14, 2024 at 11 am MST. at the Cheyenne National Veterans’ Cemetery.
