Lasaro Martinez Hernandez

Lasaro Martinez Hernandez passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving children and wife on September 30, 2023. He was born on March 20, 1931, to Gregorio and Bonificia Hernandez in Oxford, Kansas. Dad was blessed to be part of a large loving family, he had loving relationships throughout his life with his siblings, Pamfilo, Demeterio (Pete), Elias, John, Juanita (Janet), Domingo (Paul), George, Jennie, Ramona (Mona, whom he was especially close to), Victoria (Ruth) and Angela (Angel).
Dad was very proud to have served in the United States Army during the Korean War, upon receiving an honorable discharge he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal W/1 Bronze Service Star, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, and the Infantry Combat Badge. Upon returning from active duty, dad continued his employment with the Union Pacific Railroad, went on to work for Santa Fe Railroad, the Episcopal Church, and the General Service Administration (GSA).
Dad lived most of his life in North Platte, Nebraska, moved to Cheyenne, with his wife Rose in 2006 to be closer to his children. He enjoyed loving on his dog Princess, being outside, gardening/mowing the lawn, watching old westerns/scary movies, visiting family, dancing with his wife and kids/grandkids, listening to Mexican music and going to the casino. Dad had a kind and generous heart, he adored his wife and children, he never met a stranger and would give away his last dollar to someone in need.
Dad is survived by his wife of thirty-one years Rose Marie, his sisters, Ruth (Willie) Martinez, Angel (Mauro) Sanchez, his son, Alex (Junior) Hernandez, his daughters, Angie (Rick) Lara, Lisa (Glenn) Reed, Connie (Andre) Torres, Vina Hernandez, Lesa Perez and step-children Kim, Sally, Robert, Grandchildren: David, Tiffany, Ashley, Mia, Matteo, Kortnee, Tyler, Jeffrey, Tiffanee, Xander, Jessee, Kylee, Joshua, Joseph, Kayla, Trust, Tristan, Taylor, Joe, Juana, Sabrina and step-grandchildren Kasey, Hunter, Nicole, Eric, Jessica, Samantha, Dakota and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. To our cousin David Munoz, thank you for all the visits to our dad over the years, it meant the world to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gregorio and Bonifacia, siblings Pamfilo, Demetrio, Elias, John, George, Jennie, Janet, and Ramona, brother-in-law’s, Andrew Gonzales, Salvador Munoz, Dennis Mora, sisters-in-law’s Modesta, Carmen, Abora, and Christina, grandson Donte’ Lara and great grand-daughter Angelina Harrison.
Vigil for the Deceased will be held at 6:15 p.m., Wednesday, in Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel. The Funeral Liturgy will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, in St. Mary's Cathedral. Burial will follow at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
