Lance "Lanny" Grant

May 11, 1954 — June 18, 2024

Lance Linus Grant, 70, of Cheyenne passed away at his home on Tuesday June 18, 2024, while surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 11, 1954, in Cheyenne to Jack and Jessie Grant. Lanny was a dedicated Union Pacific railroad Engineer for 42 years and happily retired to spend time with his family. Throughout his eventful and active life, Lanny lived for sports. Starting with a decorated career in Little League, to his accolades in football and basketball at Saint Mary’s High School, to his constant time spent on the softball diamond and the hardwood. Lanny couldn’t resist a high pitch to tomahawk or an opportunity to take a hook shot from virtually anywhere on the court. Later in life, Lanny transitioned to a focus on all University of Wyoming athletic events, the Buffalo Bills, and the bird sanctuary he created in his backyard. Lanny married Karon Gay Shipman on August 19, 1978, and from this happy union they had three children, all of which survive him – Adam Grant (Christine), Derek Grant (Katie), and Jade Herstein (Jeff). Gay Grant preceded him in death on November 22, 2009. He then married Linda Shaklee on September 8, 2014, who survives him. He is also survived by his brother, Rocky Grant (Peggy); stepchildren, Casey Fosher (Tami), Cory Fosher (Emily), twelve grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Lanny was also preceded in death by, Jack Grant, Jessie Grant, Sharron Dienes, Dennis Grant, Bennett Grant and Connie Grant. Vigil service will be held at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel on June 23, 2024, at 3:00 PM. Mass will be held at Saint-Mary’s Cathedral on June 24, 2024 at 10:00 AM.
