Kathleen M. Thomas

October 21, 1916 — December 3, 2014

Kathleen M. “Kay” Thomas, 98, died at home on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014. She was born in Luton, Bedfordshire, England, Oct. 21, 1916.
She trained as a nurse at the Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital. During the war, she worked as a nurse for the Red Cross. An English war bride, she arrived in the states in 1946, living in Illinois. Nebraska, and Iowa before moving to Wyoming in 1962. She worked at the Platte County Hospital, DePaul (third floor), and Dr. Greer’s office. After retirement, she volunteered at the Laramie County Library and the Wyoming State Museum. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Missionary Church from its inception.
She loved to read, knit, cook, and shop. Her pies and potato salad were outstanding. Preparing for Christmas began in September. She noticed beautiful landscapes and sunsets, enjoying Sunday drives with picnic lunches. She was a careful, caring nurse, an excellent mentor to new graduates. She loved her husband all his life, making daily visits to him after his dementia was too severe for her home care. He could always make her laugh.
She is survived by her daughter Susan (Arthur Simpson), Laramie; son Robert Thomas (Denise Robison Thomas), Centerville, UT; her brother Anthony “Tony” Raddon, Ft. Myers, Florida; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, four nieces, and six nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. “Bob” Thomas; her parents, Edward R. and Anne V. Raddon; her brother Edward Charles “Boy” Raddon; and her sister Pauline Elizabeth “Betty” Thomas.
The family wishes to acknowledge her friends and the staff at Sierra Hills for their love and devotion. Though their time together was short, the family also appreciates the staff at palliative care and hospice for easing her journey.
Visitation will be Friday and Saturday at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel, 1900 E 19th St. Services will be at 11 on Monday, Dec. 8, at St Andrew’s Episcopal Missionary Church, 3325 McCann, Cheyenne, with lunch to follow. After cremation, burial will be in Beth El Cemetery, Cheyenne.
Memorials may be sent to St. Andrew’s; Collections Care, Wyoming State Museum, 2301 Central Avenue Cheyenne, 82002; or Laramie County Library Foundation, 2200 Pioneer, Cheyenne, 82001.
