James Russell Williamson

October 4, 1939 — January 29, 2024

James “Jim” R Williamson was born October 4th, 1939 in Belington, West Virginia. He passed away on January 29th, 2024 after a very sudden decline in his health. Jim was 84 years of age.
Jim lived most of his childhood in Tallmadge, Ohio. During his high school years he was an active member of band, baseball and football. He truly loved playing sports. This is where his competitive nature thrived.
Shortly after graduating high school, Jim joined the Air Force, where he served 4 years of active duty and then spent 23 years in the Air National Guard. When he wasn’t working, he was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He spent countless hours attending his daughter’s sports and cheerleading events. Jim even volunteered to coach Dan’s little league baseball a few seasons, and took on building houses with his son, Dan. Along with his military service, he worked at the highway department where he put in 30 years before entering retirement where he enjoyed filling his days with various activities such as bowling and golf. Jim enjoyed spending quality family time at their cabin where they rode snowmobiles, three wheelers and enjoyed all that the outdoors had to offer. In later years, Jim loved helping Sharon take care of their horses and spending time at their barn.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sharon Williamson, daughter Debra Diethrich (Brett), son Daniel Williamson, his brothers, Kenny Williamson (Nancy) & Don Williamson (Jil), grandson, Kyle Diethrich (Nathalie) & granddaughter Kali Diethrich (Aaron), great grandchildren, Ava, Austin, Alivia, Cora, Alexandria, Maximum and Elizabeth, along with many extended family members and loyal friends. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Russell Williamson, mother, Rilla Williamson and brother, William Williamson.
Jim and Sharon met 64 years ago on a blind date where their shared love of sports blossomed into a lifetime of love and happiness.
Military honors will be Friday, 2:00 p.m., at Cheyenne National Cemetery.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be Saturday, 1-4, at The Gathering Place.
