Glenis N. Child

August 30, 1931 — May 3, 2024

Glenis N. Child, age 92, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2024, at the Life Care Center of Cheyenne, surrounded by loving family members. She was born on August 30, 1931, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, the daughter of Oscar and Nellie Cordell Pence.
She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Wayne L. Child; sons Gary and wife Susan, Mark and wife Debie, and Randy, all of Cheyenne; granddaughters, Kelly Child of Cheyenne, Stacy Broda and husband John of Cheyenne, Codey Stocks and husband Kody of Dixon, WY; grandson, Ryan Child and wife Angelica of Phoenix, AZ; step-grandson, Josh Daugherty and wife Lee of Columbia Falls, MT; thirteen great-grandchildren overall; and five nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Lois Stone and Mary Ann Pond.
Glenis was raised on the family ranch north of Cheyenne in the community then known as Indian Hill, now commonly referenced as the Little Bear Community. She attended a one- room country schoolhouse on the family’s land called Mud Springs School, where she completed the first seven grades. She transitioned then to school in Chugwater, WY for a period of one year prior to her father’s passing in 1946. Subsequently, Glenis and her two sisters relocated to Cheyenne with their mother, where she attended McCormick Junior High. Completing course work early, prior to graduation from Cheyenne High School in 1949, she began work at the State Department of Agriculture.
On November 10, 1950, Glenis married her high school sweetheart, Wayne Child in Cheyenne. They spent their lifetime working together building the Child Family Ranch northeast of Cheyenne, raising their three sons.
In later years she was an invaluable partner in her son’s business, the Child Gallery.
Throughout her life, Glenis was guided by her faith and maintained a longstanding affiliation with the First Presbyterian Church.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Glenis dedicated herself to their home and family. She has left a lasting imprint and legacy on all she loved, with unshakeable loyalty. Often affectionally referred to as Gram or Gleny, her sense of humor will forever be remembered and cherished.
